Half-Time Week!

We continued to ease into our school schedule with a half-time week, doing about half the work we'll do in a normal week. Our first day went well and we continued to have fun all week!
Bible Time: #1 really enjoyed the story of creation from Cullen's ABC's- a video he watched on YouTube. At the end of each day, #1 would say along with Cullen, "And God saw that it was good!" and do hand motions. In the picture above, he's doing "good!" We also read the story of creation in his Jesus Story Book Bible. He did three catechism questions and really enjoyed doing them for Daddy!

Reading & Writing: I created handwriting worksheets and #1 practiced his name each morning. By Thursday he was tired of doing the same thing, so I told him if he wrote his name he wouldn't have to trace it anymore. So he did! It's the first time he's ever written his name by himself! #1 also did the first five lessons (the vowels) in Ordinary Parents' Guide to Teaching Reading. We did the lessons each morning and reviewed at lunch and dinner time. He did well, and I think we will be able to get through the consonants quickly in the next couple weeks.
More Fun: He enjoyed cutting from his Kumon book and counting to thirty. #2 loves to count too and would run into the school room when ever he heard his brother!
We do school time four days a week since Lee's day off is Friday. So yesterday, #1 drew in his weekly notebook to show what he learned this week. He decided to draw a picture of things God created--the ocean, sun, sky, a tree, and a shark! It was a fun first half-time week and we're looking forward to more fun next week!
Head over to ABC & 123 for more fun first day posts!

  1. I love the idea of a weekly notebook and having them draw or write about what they learned this week. It is a BIG deal to write your name, and it looks like he did a great job! Way to go!

  2. Thanks for the link to the handwriting worksheets. Very useful.

  3. What a great first week! We are learning about the creation too.

  4. I really want to get that cutting Kumon book too. Great idea to ease them into the schedule with half weeks! We are just starting to get more serious with homeschooling type activities - my first week linking up to Preschool Corner.

  5. The notebook idea is awesome! And thanks for the link to the video, we are learning about Creation and I know my little one will enjoy it! - over from preschool corner
